Advanced Seminar WS 21/22

Physics and principles of key technological materials & devices

Mo. 14:00-15:00 h at the II. Physikalisches Institut, University of Cologne.

In winter term WS21/21 the advanced seminar aims to discuss various new aspects in different key-technological materials and devices. The idea is to introduce the basic physical working principles of such materials, sensors or methods and to show up some typical fields of applications. Of particular interest are also factors which currently limit the performance of particular materials and/or concepts and to present possible ways or ideas to circumvent such limitations.

Possible subjects of the seminar talks could be about

  • photovoltaics
  • memory devices
  • thermopower materials
  • lasers
  • fiber-based sensing
  • ferroic tunnel junctions
  • magnetocaloric cooling
  • metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs)
  • High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs)
  • ...
